The Shiites of Baltistan in addition to celebrating the lunar Ashura that other Shiites around the world celebrate with the arrival of the days of Muharram, celebrate another Ashura called Asad Ashura, which coincides with the days of Asad (summer).
This article examines the historical roots of holding these two Ashuras in the Baltistan region.
There are Four reasons and factors for holding this ceremony in the Baltistan:1-Commemorating the thirst of Abu Abdullah Al-Hussein (AS) and his loyal companions in the year 61 AH, on Karbala, during the hottest days of the year; 2-The mountainous and inaccessible nature of the region and the climatic conditions of Baltistan when Muharram fell in the winter; 3-Poverty and indigence in winter against their better condition in summer; 4-Fulfillment of people needs by holding mourning ceremonies on Ashura and the role of rulers.
Because there were very few written sources on the subject, field and interview methods were used in addition to library methods to collect information.
