One of the fundamental and important issues in understanding the social and political situation of any society is to examine and study the structure and status of the educational institutions of that society. In other words, the educational status and structure of each society is the foundation of its social and political developments; Therefore, its correct study can lead to a better understanding of the social and political structure of that society in different time periods. The educational situation of Gilan in the contemporary period, due to the lack of related documents, has been paid less attention by contemporary history researchers. Therefore, according to the importance of the subject, the present research tries to study the comparative study of the educational situation of Gilan in the Qajar and Pahlavi periods by relying on the documents and letters of the Qajar and Pahlavi periods and with a descriptive-analytical method. The findings of the current research indicate that the educational structure of Gilan, which was mostly managed in a traditional way until the early decades of the Qajar period, has taken a step towards modernization since the middle of this period and in line with other regions of the country. In the post-constitutional years and especially during the Pahlavi period, this process has gained more intensity and speed and has experienced many ups and downs due to the political atmosphere of the society.
