Representation of Imam Ali (PBUH)’s state letters to the governors and commanders

Abstract

Some of the letters of Imam Ali (PUBH) were administrative and organizational correspondences which contained principles of the state Management in themselves. In the early days of his caliphate, Amir al-Momenin (PUBH) initiated a management restructuring and he changed the former governors who were mainly from Umayyad lineage and their supporters. The present paper seeks to investigate the structure and criteria of Imam Ali's instructions and orders to the governors of the Islamic State and how he dealt with the governors in general. Therefore, the purpose of this article is to examine Imam Ali (PBUH)’s orders and instructions in the cultural, social and political aspects to the state governors so that we understand his guidelines and have an example in order to apply them in different aspects of today's life. In this article, using the method of description and analysis and based on library resources, I have attempted to extract various aspects of Imam (PBUH) 's instructions in his letters to his governors. One of the results and achievements of this research is the criteria conveyed in the letters of Ali (PBUH) for the management of Islamic state as well as the way of his dealing with competent and incompetent governors. Investigating the letters of Imam Ali (PBUH) in the cultural, social and political fields written to state governors and the necessity of modeling them in modern societies is one of the innovative aspects in this article.
