With the emergence of Islam and its expansion across various regions, along with the formation of Shi‘ism, certain areas on the southern shores of the Persian Gulf, including Al-Ahsa and Qatif, attracted the attention of Shi‘a communities. The main issue of this research is to provide a historical explanation and analysis of the process of the Shi‘a entry into these regions and to examine the factors influencing the continuity of their presence in Al-Ahsa and Qatif.
This study was conducted using a descriptive-analytical method. The results indicate that the history of the Shi‘a presence in Al-Ahsa and Qatif dates back to the early history of Islam. Throughout various periods of Islamic civilization, several factors contributed to the establishment and continuity of the Shi‘a presence in these areas. These include the presence of certain individuals and tribes, the formation of Shi‘a governance in the region (which provided security and tranquility for the Shi‘a community for extended periods), the migration of Shi‘a populations from various areas to these regions, and favorable geographical and economic conditions.
